Silicone versus saline

Lately, there is an increasing trend for women seeking to have a Plastic surgery procedure to go for saline implants in the false belief that they are somehow more “healthy” as silicone implants. This notion started growing after the scandal with Dow Corning faulty silicone implants and the muti-millionaire law suits that the company had to face.

This concept is misguided, since saline silicon implants are just as dangerous as silicone ones. On the first place it has been suspected that silicon itself has many dangerous side effects in the long run. Concretely, silicon has been suspected to cause severe autoimmune conditions, that have a chronic development, such as fibromyalgia, arthritis, and lung and brain cancer, just to mention a few. Also Plastic surgery procedures and silicon implants are believed to provoke chronic fatigue syndrome, carpian tunnel and connective tissue disorders.

Saline implants are also made of silicon, since they are basically silicon “bags” that contain saline solution inside. So, silicon is still present, as well as all the side effects they cause. In the case of leakage, there is no certainty that they will be harmless. The saline solution will spread into the body, but it might host fungus or bacteria infection, so the consequences of this can be very dangerous. Plastic surgery procedures are a bad option when considering our health.

Both silicon and saline implants have to be changes every ten or fifteen years, so this should also be considered when planning to have a Plastic surgery procedure.
